Sam’s Branch Greenway to East Clayton Community Park

June 7. An out-and-back hike through Clayton, for a total of 13.4 miles.

From here on, my drive time to the trailhead will be over an hour.

And I have time to think through my options going forward as I set out on Sam’s Branch Greenway.

I really appreciate communities that have dedicated financial resources to public fitness! I always find a variety of walkers, joggers, and bikers using the greenways.

This abandoned ball field might have been really sad……

….except that there was a wonderful, expansive, new community park nearby!

“It is tempting to turn left and walk along the railroad tracks to avoid traffic, but it is illegal to hike on railroad tracks.” (MST trail guide)

I really wasn’t all that tempted….

Right through downtown Clayton!

And we now pause for cultural enrichment…

Shaken to my core by the egregious apostrophe, I head out of town and pass by this rather alarming sculpture.

There were a couple of miles of roadside, but lovely safe edges, and not much traffic.

The Park provided this perfect rock for a short break, before starting back.

On the way back I stopped again in downtown Clayton.
It’s warm, for sure!

But since this was my previous turnaround point, I knew right where to park to get the most shade!
