MST-23

Hedingham Blvd/Corporation Pkwy to Poole Road Trailhead

May 28, 9.25 miles round trip.

6 miles of ugly.

I mean, this really isn’t a wilderness adventure!

Now THIS is a wilderness adventure!

That’s my daughter and her family on the summit of Mt. Si in Washington.

But you make do with what you have, and what I have on this hike is a lot of noisy roadways.

Leaving my car in the convenient Walmart Superstore parking lot, I re-united with my turnaround point from the last hike at the corner of Corporation Parkway and Hedingham Boulevard.

Two and a half miles of this….

…although some parts had a little shade.

And an incredible number of Brown Thrashers!

Happily, following the red brick road led me to…

It was like reaching an oasis after crossing a desert!

It was a hot one today, so I pushed the hydration.

Very relieved to be back on the Neuse River Greenway….even though it’s still asphalt.

18 miles of Neuse River Greenway, but closer to Mile 19 on the MST (Segment 11) because of the detours.

Because of the recent rains, the Neuse River was flowing at a pretty good clip here.

Up ahead is Poole Road, which is my turnaround point.

Swimming in this muddy river was not tempting, even with the heat

The next hike’s parking area is off to the right, and the route will continue on south.

But it’s about face for me, after a short rest.

Back in Anderson Point Park I had another rest stop, because now there would be that awful 2.5 miles of roadway.

But first we pause for cultural enrichment…

Ok, time to hit the pavement!

You’d think something named “Duckling Way” would be charming…

but it wasn’t.
