North Roxboro Road to Penny’s Bend Nature Preserve

It was a short tenth of a mile from the parking lot to pick up the MST. Another pretty December day!

This section was a little less manicured than all the previous ones.

The route felt less-traveled, although obviously it’s not that remote! I could see a neighborhood of houses through the winter woods.

This is the last MST hike that goes along the Eno River, and I’ll miss its quiet beauty.

The 4th mile followed the horseshoe bend of the river, but on the return trip I short-cutted the peninsula across the top. This hike totaled over 9 miles, my longest yet.

Turn-around point means a snack and drink break!

The short-cut across the peninsula led through this pretty meadow, and then into some very “birdy” woods–several species of woodpeckers and a flock of Cedar Waxwings.

Curious.

It’s been a lovely 15 miles, but now it’s farewell, Eno River!
