Cameron Mountain Road to NC 16 overpass, westbound

March 31, 2026. This is the second of two back-to-back hikes at the end of March, and Tah-DAH! this completes Segment 5. This hike was 9.5 miles.

After dropping me off on Cameron Mountain Road, the husband-shuttle drove up to a Blue Ridge Parkway overlook to do some birding.

At 7am, he got the sunrise, but it was still fairly dark in the forest where I was.

This was a fairly straight-forward hike, without any particular difficulty.

The route included some short stretches on the Blue Ridge Parkway and several crossings.

Nothing too exciting today, except for the fact that I was COMPLETING SEGMENT 5!!!

Have I mentioned that this COMPLETES SEGMENT 5???

“Clingman’s Dome” has been renamed “Kuwohi.”
I actually have less than 200 miles left to complete the MST, now that I have COMPLETED SEGMENT 5!!!
Thanks, Mary! Maybe nothing extraordinary happened, but, that is still an accomplishment. (Worthy of Ripley’s Believe it or not not?)
Thanks, for recording this for the rest of us.
