(#52/100 North Carolina county highpoints)

Before heading to the highpoint we stopped at Dorothea Dix Park in Raleigh, where a rare Clay-colored Sparrow had been seen for weeks.

But, alas, this was the day the weather made a dramatic turn from typical arctic January temperatures to warm and drizzly. Pleasant for being outdoors, but apparently our target sparrow decided to migrate elsewhere.

Lots of Song Sparrows, however!

We gave up the sparrow-quest and drove north of Raleigh to the highpoint. This is the view from Martin Farm Road.

Then we drove around to Liana Lane and looked at the tall trees from the other side.

We paused, but politely did not park!
