ROCKINGHAM
1061′
(#36/100 North Carolina county highpoints)
After an ambitious hike in Stokes County, we were pretty sure that the Rockingham highpoint would be a disappointment, being as it was just a bump in the field about 20 feet off the road.

But there is something magical about the first hour of daylight,

And the birdsong! We hear Wood Thrushes, warblers, an Orchard Oriole, and a faraway Wild Turkey.

After the highpoint we stopped to bird at Haw River State Park.

And that’s pretty much a perfect day, right there.
I see that you are walking earlier in the day. Lots of plusses at this time. The first time I experienced red clover, was after my husband retired, when we could visit his mother in the springtime. I saw it in Oklahoma and Arkansas. Shocking!
