Bump on a Knob

ALLEGHANY

4175′

(#33/100 North Carolina county highpoints)

Peach Bottom Mountain has three different knobs, two with radio/cell towers. Our target is the third knob, with no tower.

From Cheek Mountain Road we follow a farm path that skirts a field of Christmas trees.

That’s our car parked on Cheek Mountain Road.

The view is already amazing!

At a certain point, the grass definitely looks greener on the other side of the fence, so we finish our ascent on that side.

Up, up, up to Tower Knob

From Tower Knob it’s an easy down and back up to the highpoint. You can’t see it in the photo, but when Loren gets over there, he will find a Wild Turkey scurrying away into the woods.

Here it is, the summit bump of Catherine Knob.
Loren atop the summit block.

On the way back to the car there’s time to enjoy the scenery…

…and also time to stop and smell the. . .Wild Violets!
