Hate the Gates

YADKIN

1755′

(not quite #33/100 North Carolina county highpoints)

We begin this lovely day in Yadkin County with a splendid morning of birding.

From Yadkin Memorial Park in Yadkinville, it’s not far to the highpoint.

But oh, dear, once again we face a gated community with no access.

The other end of Highland Road is also gated.

Plan B goes into effect!

A previous highpointer referenced another way in, from Vista Drive, so we drive back around to give that a try.

Hmm, let’s check out that sign on the gate, shall we?
<<sigh>>

So here’s the situation. The highpoint is on a very long ridge, all privately owned, and they’re pretty serious about keeping us out. Unlike a similar situation in Davidson County, there isn’t even a vantage point to catch a glimpse of the highpoint.

But what is this I see?

Dynamis Estate Wines

Dynamis Estate Wines will WELCOME us in!

And we’d be happy to talk wine with you, Dynamis…

…and after we talk about wine, we would like to wander a little ways up the road to the county highpoint.

So, stay tuned for Part 2.

We will schedule a wine tasting with Dynamis Estate, re-visit Yadkin County, and at long last, complete this quest.

No matter how much suffering it will take.
