(#17/100 North Carolina highpoints)

We parked, but remained in our car for safety, because leaving the woods was a hunter with a rifle, followed by a pack of 20 beagles.

But as it turns out, this wasn’t a hunting expedition, but a training exercise. So after the hunter/trainer passed us, we headed into the field to the highpoint.

Two tired and thirsty beagles accompanied us rather than follow their trainer back home.
They were still wandering around the woods when we left, despite our pleas of “Go home, puppies!”
Training exercise FAIL.

Of course the pups were tired — they followed you an extra 3,500 feet! (Not your most strenuous hike on this quest.)

That’s why the blog post was so short! Not much adventure…once the woman with the rifle left the area.
