Golden Gardens

Today’s walking destination was Golden Gardens Park in Ballard, about 1.5 miles from where I’m staying. And did I mention the stairs?

The park was developed in 1907 as an “attraction” for city dwellers, who would ride the newly installed streetcar to the end of the line, then walk down all those stairs to the refreshing beach–and ogle the real estate available all along the way.

The historic bathhouse was built in the 1930’s and now serves as a wedding reception venue.

Most of the birds I saw near the beach were fly-by’s.

Clockwise:
Bald Eagle, Glaucous-winged/Western Gull hybrid, Caspian Tern, Great Blue Heron, Mew Gull

At the north end of the park is the Mallard Infinity Pool

People, too!

Halfway back up the hill there’s a very popular dog park and a trail that heads into the forest.

I make a safe under-trestle crossing of a very busy train track, and head for home.

On the way back I learn that Ballard political sentiments
are pretty one-sided…

…and even the dogs are green.
