Well, here we are in North Carolina!
We’ve gone from this— —to this. Progress, no?

So we were ready to ignore a few boxes and undone projects and get out and explore OCCONEECHEE MOUNTAIN. The highest point in Orange County! All 837 feet of it!!! In fact, it’s all downhill from here to the Atlantic Ocean.

The hike was short, but it had several options. We began the loop trail, then headed to the overlook, then back to the parking lot. We ignored the noise of traffic on nearby I-85 and enjoyed a Saturday morning walk in the Piedmont. (But not too many birds–highlights were a Common Raven and a Pine Warbler.)

At the overlook we had a view of Hillsborough and the Eno River. We’ve been told it’s quite dramatic at sunset, so we’ll need to come back for that experience.

I guess that was enough peril for one morning!
